Staff and Governors at St Nicholas C of E School at Baydon have won praise from Ofsted inspectors.
The 106-pupil school has been given an overall "good" accolade in every respect.
However, to improve standards the inspectors have recommended there should be more consistent targets in teaching to help pupils raise their achievement.
The inspection team that spent a day at the school in May found little to criticise and their 11 page report sings the praises of what they described as "a much smaller than average" school.
The report included some comments from parents including one stating: "They treat the children as individuals in a caring, nurturing and supportive atmosphere."
The inspectors themselves reported: "The effective leadership is not complacent, but has focussed on building on existing successes.
"The overall quality of teaching is good and has continued to improve, and teachers' generally high expectations have been a significant factor in good pupil progress."
The inspectors reported that St Nicholas helps pupils to develop well as individuals and added: "Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is a strength of the school."
Headteacher Peter Chambers had high expectations, the report found.
Mr Chambers said the staff, governors and parents were pleased the report recognised the school's above average academic standards.
