Baydon’s Jubilee Celebrations

A further planning meeting for the village Jubilee Celebrations was held at the Red Lion Pub, Debbie Moxon was in the chair. 7 members of the committee were present.

Debbie Moxon reported that she had completed the application for a Marlborough Area Board grant and passed it to the Parish Clerk to submit. She added that the Parish Council would probably refund expenses up to £1,000.

As Dawn Howell was not present the children’s games and bouncy castle could not be discussed.

Tony Topp said that he would require 3 bags of coconuts and he would talk to someone who may be willing to donate a prize for the skittles.

Clair Holloway said that she still hadn’t sourced a generator that will be needed for the band and the bar. Sue Grove reported that the Firework committee generator would not be “man” enough for the job. She added that Gordie Buckingham and Ben Banyard had agreed to play music also.

Pat Mapstone and Renee Saunders had produced a letter, which is to be distributed to all households explaining the need to apply for a Jubilee mug. The committee had chosen a mug that had been originally designed by a Blue Peter winner. It was agreed to add the words “Baydon – Queen Elizabeth 2nd  1952 – 2012. It was estimated that 160 mugs would be needed and there would be extras for village people to purchase. Renee agreed to arrange a pro forma invoice for the Chairman.

Barbara Furber reported that a competition to choose a Prince /Princess and King / Queen for the event will be advertised in the Scene in Baydon in April. 4 members of the committee will judge the entries for this on May 17th. Debbie has volunteered to give consolation prizes to those not chosen. The winners would be provided with sashes, crowns/tiaras and posies of flowers. The latter would be made by Pat Mapstone.

Clair agreed to provide a quiz for the day.

It was also agreed to hold a decorated table competition and to ask Tony Prior if he would be the judge.

It was suggested that bunting and balloons be used to decorate the road from the Pub up and into the Field. Debbie is to ask local people about making a sign for the village green. She also agreed to write to the County Council advising them of our plans for the day. Liability was covered, she added, and Mark Houghton was taking care of the Health & Safety / Risk Assessment.

Pat suggested a rota was needed to patrol the village, for security, during the event.

A letter was received from Denise Dawson agreeing to provide entertainment on the day for the younger children.

It was also agreed to send Jonathan Smith a gift for the use of his field and to include an invitation to the event.

The layout of the field and the signage will be discussed at the next meeting.

Debbie agreed to supply information to the Scene in Baydon for the February edition.

The next meeting will be at 8pm on Monday 6th February, venue to be confirmed.
