Baydon’s Jubilee
Celebrations
A further planning
meeting for the village Jubilee Celebrations was held at the Red Lion Pub,
Debbie Moxon was in the chair. 7 members of the
committee were present.
Debbie Moxon reported that she had completed the application for a

present the children’s games and bouncy castle could not be discussed.
Tony Topp said that he
would require 3 bags of coconuts and he would talk to someone who may be
willing to donate a prize for the skittles.
Clair Holloway said
that she still hadn’t sourced a generator that will be needed for the band and
the bar. Sue Grove reported that the Firework committee generator would not be
“man” enough for the job. She added that Gordie
Buckingham and Ben Banyard had agreed to play music
also.
Pat Mapstone and Renee Saunders had produced a letter, which is
to be distributed to all households explaining the need to apply for a Jubilee
mug. The committee had chosen a mug that had been originally designed by a Blue
Peter winner. It was agreed to add the words “Baydon – Queen Elizabeth 2nd
1952 – 2012. It was estimated that 160 mugs would be needed and there would be
extras for village people to purchase. Renee agreed to arrange a pro forma
invoice for the Chairman.
Barbara Furber
reported that a competition to choose a Prince /Princess and King / Queen for
the event will be advertised in the Scene in Baydon in April. 4 members of the
committee will judge the entries for this on May 17th. Debbie has volunteered
to give consolation prizes to those not chosen. The winners would be provided
with sashes, crowns/tiaras and posies of flowers. The latter would be made by
Pat Mapstone.
Clair agreed to
provide a quiz for the day.
It was also agreed to
hold a decorated table competition and to ask Tony Prior if he would be the
judge.
It was suggested that
bunting and balloons be used to decorate the road from the Pub up and into the
Field. Debbie is to ask local people about making a sign for the village green.
She also agreed to write to the County Council advising them of our plans for
the day. Liability was covered, she added, and Mark Houghton was taking care of
the Health & Safety / Risk Assessment.
Pat suggested a rota
was needed to patrol the village, for security, during the event.
A letter was received from
Denise Dawson agreeing to provide entertainment on the day for the younger children.
It was also agreed to
send Jonathan Smith a gift for the use of his field and to include an
invitation to the event.
The layout of the
field and the signage will be discussed at the next meeting.
Debbie agreed to
supply information to the Scene in Baydon for the February edition.
The next meeting will
be at 8pm on Monday 6th February, venue to be confirmed.
