Baydon’s Remembrance Service

 

The Remembrance Service held at St. Nicholas Church Baydon was well attended by villagers who were pleased to welcome two uniformed servicemen who are currently studying at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, Shrivenham.

 

The service was led by Rev. Joan Prout and Mrs Dorothy Newman accompanied the hymns on the organ.

 

Former Marine Mr Kevin Barnes read the lesson.

 

A poem entitled “The Poppy Fields of Flanders was read by Mr Bryan Harber followed by the list of names of the men who died in both World Wars from the Baydon Roll of Honour which was read by Mr Stan Titcombe.

 

In her address Rev. Prout emphasised the need to remember the courage and commitment of our soldiers in today’s conflicts.

 

Mr Bryn Furber (former Bandsman 1st Royal Dragoons) sounded the Last Post and Reveille.
